How to Structure Your Financial Manager Resume

Open with your qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), years of post-qualified experience, sectors, and one headline achievement — e.g. "reduced monthly close cycle from 12 to 5 days" or "led $50M budget planning process for FTSE 250 division".

Core Competencies / Key Skills

List finance functions (FP&A, treasury, reporting), systems (SAP, Oracle), and accounting standards (IFRS, UK GAAP). ATS scans this section first — include full names alongside abbreviations.

Experience — Quantify Everything

Every bullet point should contain a number: budget size, team headcount, cost savings, revenue, or efficiency improvements. "Managed $120M operating budget across 4 business units, delivering 3% under-spend" is far stronger than "managed budgets".

Qualifications & Professional Memberships

List your accountancy qualification, the awarding body, and the year of completion. Mention any ongoing CPD or specialist certificates (e.g. CFA Level II, AMCT for treasury roles).

Common Financial Manager Resume Mistakes

  • ✗Not stating the accounting qualification prominently — ACA/ACCA/CIMA is often a hard filter
  • ✗Describing responsibilities without mentioning budget sizes or team scale
  • ✗Omitting systems experience — recruiters and ATS filter heavily on SAP, Oracle, Hyperion, etc.
  • ✗Using only abbreviations (IFRS, SOX) without the full name — ATS may not match both forms
